Elon Musk wasn’t always the billionaire genius-engineer-madman we know today. Born in 1971 in South Africa, he spent his childhood buried in books, dreaming of space, and getting beaten up at school. His escape? Programming. At age 12, he sold his first video game, “Blastar.” That moment planted the seed: technology was his ticket out.

After a brief stint at a Canadian university (to dodge mandatory military service), he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania.
