The Origins of Shinrin-Yoku

The term “shinrin-yoku” translates to “forest bathing” in English, but don’t be misled — this isn’t about swimming in a forest pond. Coined in the 1980s by the Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, shinrin-yoku refers to immersing oneself in the forest atmosphere, taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of nature.
