I Once Had a Home

The Forgotten Love of a Fallen King

I once had a home
Where they said they loved me.
“I was the king of the house,” they claimed,
And they loved to play with me.

One day, they rejoiced,
My mother and father, full of joy,
For the coming arrival
Of someone I did not know.

Her belly grew rounder.
Curious, I brushed against it,
Felt that little being inside,
And purred with happiness.

Months passed,
And everything changed.
My room disappeared
To make space for what was coming.

“The doctor said…” they whispered,
Their tears eluded me.
They looked at me with sadness,
And we never played again.

One day, they decided
That this would be my last night here,
For the one arriving
Was now their only joy.

I didn’t understand.
I loved them too,
But without knowing how,
I found myself in the street.
