The streets of Riverton were unusually quiet as Emma, William, and Professor Whitman made their way to the oversight committee’s next meeting. The morning fog clung to the ground, creating an eerie atmosphere that mirrored their apprehensions. Victor Caldwell’s shadow loomed over their every move, and the weight of their discoveries felt heavier with each passing day.

Inside the town hall, the committee members were already gathered. Clara Hargrove sat among them, her eyes sharp and observant. Mayor Thompson called the meeting to order, her voice steady but grave.
